everyone’s been talking about pixiv edits these days

editing is definitely not okay, but i just want to point out that reposting art is sometimes also not okay.

i noticed that a lot of artists DO NOT want people their work reposted REGARDLESS if you give them credit or not.

i’m not accusing anyone or anything, i used to repost pixiv stuff too. when i first joined tumblr years ago, people (including good artists) were already reblogging or posting reposted fanart like it’s no big deal so i just joined in.

i used to reblog/repost other people’s fanart too. later, i switched to only reblogging art that is credited in the description and not just linked. finally, i stopped reblogging reposted art in general. i only reblog pictures that were posted by the original artist.

i think most tumblr users have been convinced that it’s okay to repost fanart if it’s sourced, except that’s not always the case. i’m sure there are artists out there who wouldn’t mind people reposting their artwork if it’s credited, but i know for sure there are artists out there who do mind.

mmm basically, don’t repost something unless the artist gave you permission to do it. i’m not forcing you to listen to me or anything, i’m just putting this out here….

i’m happy that there are people who address issues such as pixiv edits, deleting artist comments, and using zerochan/danbooru as sources but i just want to say those aren’t the only issues that exist…
